If you go to the baby stores at Barton Creek Mall and notice that the display strollers are in various states of mangle and collapse, that was me. I can collapse them just fine, but can't seem to get the hang of unfolding them back to their operational state. Any of them. So I'd just shove them back on their respective pedestals and leave.
Shopping for baby accessories is going to be *so much* fun (said with *so much* sarcasm).

Ha ha ha.. You've inspired me to collapse all the strollers at Target while I'm there buying things that I don't need. Yeah, that'll learn them for putting shiny, brightly colored things in my path making me buy them and bring them home when all I went for is toilet paper! ha ha !!!
Keep pluggin' away girl. I'm sure you'll get the hang of it. Makes me think that I had hoped that by the time I was of the fertile age, they'd (those scientists getting paid lots-o-money and the big wigs in the pentagon creating for the military or something) would have self pop up strollers, play pens, castles, cars... like the jetsons. So much for our tax dollars!
That's the kind of stuff you research online, put on your baby registry and make other people buy it for you. I had that issue the other day with a stroller. I needed to grab some books from Mason's library for my research paper and took Charge #3 with me. His stroller was difficult to unfold and then when we had gotten back to the car I took a few minutes to figure out to fold it (no, he was not inside, I had already put him in his carseat). Better safe baby than crushed baby.
Once you know the due date, let me know so I can schedule a trip to Austin several weeks beforehand to throw your baby shower.
Thank, Sis. That's wonderful. I would be thrilled to have you visit!
I have very strict criteria for my future stroller which is why I'm out "test driving" them. You ready? Here's the criteria:
1) It must weigh so little that I can lift it with one arm, and
2)It must be *very* small so that I don't feel like I'm steering a mini SUV, and
3) It must fold to a very compact size so as to fit in the uber small trunk of whatever "mommy convertible" I wind of getting (which is a depressing topic in and of itself).
Try putting together the crib. Chris almost died that day. And then again when we had to put together that damned stroller. Come to think of it, he had a lot of near death experiences when I was pregnant.
The only stroller that I can manage is ours, and that's because I now have 16 months of experience with it. But you'd better believe that it took a lot of colorful words and sweat getting the hang of it!
Ok, after reading what you want in a stroller, there are a couple of different options. One thing that I will HIGHLY recommend is making sure that you have a stroller that fits your carseat. This is a lifesaver while they're still in the carrier type of carseat. (Which is a lifesaver in itself)
That being said, you will most likely not want a travel system type of stroller. This is basically a carrier style carseat that comes with a matching stroller. (What we have) They're pretty big. You can get something that is basically an aluminun frame that your carrier snaps into. It's lightweight and very portable. Problem is that when they're sitting up and out of the carrier and into a real carseat, you'll have to get a real stroller. I could go on forever, so we'll talk about it another time, I'm sure!
Ditto what Katie wrote! I completely agree that you want something that will carry the carseat.
As I mentioned to you before, we have 6 strollers. We had 3 for Makena. The first was a travel system and we used it a lot for the first 6 months. But, as soon as Makena was stable enough to sit upright, it was just too big. It was awful to travel with. So, we got the smallest/lightest/easiest to fold stroller, which was great and would have continued to be great, if Makena stayed an only child. (You want to make sure the handles are long enough for Husband.) The third is a jogging/trailer stroller that we can use with our bikes. That's gotten a ton of use as well.
I have yet to see a stroller that is light/compact that will also fit a carseat. I'm not sure how much the aluminum frame strollers that Katie mentioned are, but that might be the most economical route. I don't remember seeing those when Makena was born. If we had to do it all over again with one baby, that's what we'd get. The first 6 months are such a tough time, you really want to have the carseat, but, it's only 6 months. It would suck to commit to a big lump of a stroller, when you need much less the majority of the time.
Things changed so much in the 2 years between Makena's birth and Kessie's birth.. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't have something new and cool out there in 9 months!!
um, what's a stroller?
