More Proof That It's a Boy

Husband and I went to see my baby doctor today and the nurse told us that the Little Husband's heart is beating at 153 beats per minute. "What do you think you're having", she asked me.

"A boy." I responded without any hesitation.

"Yeah...me too." She said. "Don't tell the doctor I told you this, but girl babies' hearts usually beat in the 160 range. I think you're having a boy."

And there you have it.

Speaking of having things, I have an ultrasound scheduled for Wednesday morning. I'll post the pic when I get it.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention the most compelling piece of evidence that I am having a boy: the Bug Guy. He came last Friday to check the rat traps (more on that later) so I hung out at the bottom of the attic stairs, chatting him up while he worked. When I told him I am pregnant he told me that he is 100% accurate in predicting the sex of babies. He came down the stairs, took one look at me and declared, "Yep. You're having a boy."

No further proof needed. In fact, I probably don't even need that 20 week ultrasound. I'm going to go paint the nursery blue now.

I commented that we were told the same thing.. but had the wrong sex associated with the heart rate. So, I deleted it to avoid confusion.

We were told that girl's have faster heart rates as well!!

I've heard that folklore before about the heart rate (here's a scientific study done in Austin no less about it http://www.obgyn.net/medical.asp?page=/english/pubs/features/dubose/ehr-age), and might I also say when I predicted the sexes of three of my coworkers babies in 2006, my boss and I had a heated discussion about one in particular because I said it was going to be a girl and she said she had a prefect track record and said it was going to be a boy. Guess who was right....

I'll give you some solace though- girls are better behaved in school and a lot easier to potty train than boys. I knew a little girl who potty trained herself at 16 months, no joke. The average age to potty train boys is around 3-4, I did a lot of training in my preschool teacher days. Let me tell you, it's lots of fun trying to get a boy to aim right.

Rose I'm confused. Are you saying Marianne is going to have a girl?

Yeah, I think she is going to have a girl.

I still think that you're having a boy!

Rose - Just to make it clear, I am perfectly happy with whatever sex the baby turns out to be. I fact, after spending time with Kelly's little girl this past weekend and then with Roo, Husband commented that it wold be a shame for me *not* to have a little girl (I've got some mad french-braiding skillz). That being said, it's just in fun that I think I am having a boy. Givn my age, I may only get pregnant once in my life and what better way to honor my wonderful husband than to produce a child in his likeness? As for predicting the sex of a baby, how can anyone go toe-to-toe with The Bug Guy? ;)

Now that I am pregnant, lots of people have lots of advice/comments for us on a daily basis. Some of it is surprisingly insensitive and judgemental--things I would never *dream* of saying to an expectant mother. My observation is that as your waistline thickens, so too must your skin.

For us, it was just kind of fun to have someone in the profession agree with our instinct that it's going to be a boy. I'd read about the heartrate being a possible predictor but to have her say it with no prompting from me was like, "Wow--how cool." I don't expect that she's right anymore than I expect that I'm right. In fact, I don't believe that anybody can accurately predict the sex of a baby through any means other than blind luck.

Except The Bug Guy. He told me that he bats a thousand.

boy or girl, you're gonna be a fantastic mom. you just have it in you.

as for mean things ppl say to expectant mothers...you should ask Ash about her Whole Foods experience. apparently someone told her she was unfit bc she was having the baby in a hospital instead of holistically or something. poor thing left Whole Foods crying.

Yeesh, that's unbelievable. If I made note of the things people say to me and then reported them here, I'd become bitter. So, I try to forget them. Poor Ash!

I'm not trying to be mean, I just really think it's going to be a girl. Boys aren't bad at all (unless they've hit a baseball into your shin...), they're easier than girls in certain respects. Anyways, everyone else agrees with you and you have to have one naysayer in the crowd. Who cares as long as the baby is healthy? I can think of one time I was wrong and that was when a parent found out she was pregnant after her husband died last year. I was convinced just for the sake of the dad it was going to be a boy, but it ended up being a girl. But, who cares what it was in the end because that whole thing was a miracle.
